Power Ranking The Most Iconic Mets Animals
If you’re a true Mets fan, you adore the various creatures and critters that have established themselves as cultural icons amongst the fanbase. Let’s take a look at the top five.
5. Mets Dog
This dog is famous for all the wrong reasons. My initial reaction when meeting Mets Dog in the parking lot at Citi Field was, “aw that’s pretty cute haha, good dog.” But as the minutes passed, and that mutt sat there motionless while parents sent their children over to shove wads of dollar bills into the elusive owner’s dirty plastic jug, the dark reality of the situation settled in. Mets Dog deserves a better life, but he or she sure is a beloved icon forever embedded in Mets Lore.
4. Rally Parakeet

This may very well be another case of animal abuse. We can still save Mets Dog, but Rally Parakeet’s fate was sealed long before SNY’s camera crew spotted the befuddled housepet; that Budgie almost certainly died within hours of the broadcast. How is a domestic, tropical bird supposed to survive in New York City? Assuming it even made it out of Citi Field alive.
Anyways, Rally Parakeet is an epic Mets icon because the color of its feathers matched Yoenis Cespedes’ yellow sleeve, and then he hit his first Mets home run! Lets go Rally Parakeet! RIP!
3. RatCoon
We cannot say for sure whether any animals were abused in the RatCoon incident of 2021, unless you count the squirrel, AKA Jeff McNeil, getting choke-slammed by teammate Francisco Lindor between innings. The alleged altercation and RatCoon sighting occurred in the tunnel at Citi Field, but it appears the double play partners have since squashed the beef. Sadly, nobody managed to snap a photograph of the mystery animal in the heat of the scuffle, but according to reports, it was either a rat or a raccoon. Maybe it was both? It’s possible. Ya gotta believe.
2. Rally Rat
There’s no disputing the species designation of this creature — that is a bonafide Rally Rat. Not much else to it really. Any out of place object, animal, swarm of insects, etc. that makes its way onto the field during a win is destined to live on in Mets lore as a Rally Icon for months.
1. Rally Pigeon
Like I said, the requirements for joining the Rally Animal Family are pretty lenient; just be an animal and exist on the playing field. As long as SNY’s first-rate camera crew and production team catches a glimpse of you, and the Mets win, you will become an iconic rally symbol. I’m pretty sure this is actually a Dove, but Keith called it a Pigeon, so we’re going with Rally Pigeon baby.
